Finely boned Canadian actor, a more handsome version of Peter Cushing. His sharp features proved equally adaptable to kindliness, literacy, nobility and psychotic villainy.

Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer was born in 1929 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada the only child of John and Isabella Abbott Orme. After his parents divorce he was brought up in the Abbott family home in, Quebec.

He is bilingual and equally adept at English and French.

Through his mother he is a great grandson of Canadian Prime Minister John Abbott. He is also a second cousin to Nigel Bruce, the English actor who played Dr. Watson in the Sherlock Holes films of the late 30's and 1940's.

Plummer at first studied to be a concert pianist but developed a love for the theater at an early age. He began acting while at school at Montreal High School. He was influenced after seeing Sir Laurence Olivier in the film Henry V.

He made his film debut in the year 1958 in the film Stage Struck.

Christopher Plummer is arguably the finest actor of post World War Two and the finest Shakespearean actor of the period.

He won two Emmy Awards out of six nominations and two Tony Awards out of six nominations as well. The Tony Awards were for Best Actor ( musical) for Cyrano in 1974 and Best Actor (play) in Barrymore.

He has been nominated for the following Academy Awards:

2010 - The Last Station as Leo Tolstoy

He was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor in 2012 for his performance in Beginners as Hal.

Plummer won this award and at age 82 was the oldest performer to win an Oscar

He likes best to be remembered as Baron Von Trapp in The Sound Of Music.

Plummer also played the part of Sherlock Holmes in which he made an admirable one.

He also did a number of voice overs for animated feature films .

Plummer has been married three times. His first wife was Tammy Grimes and his second wife was Patricia Lewis. Both marriages ended in divorce.

His current wife is Elaine Taylor and the couple have been married since 1970.

He is he father of actress Amanda Plummer by his first wife Tammy Grimes.

I have always liked this actor and my favorite Plummer films were The Sound Of Music, Nuremberg(TV), Star Trek The Undiscovered Country, The Battle Of Britain, Waterloo, Murder by Decree, Wolf, Dolores Claiborne, Alexander and Must Love Dogs.
