Dawn Wells is an American actress who is best known for her role as Mary Ann on the TV series Gilligan's Island.
She was born Dawn Elberta Wells at Reno, NV in 1938.
In 1959 she was crowned Miss Nevada and represented her state in the Miss America Pageant in 1960.
Ms. Wells attended Reno High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. In that college she majored in chemistry. She then transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle where she graduated with a degree in theater arts and design in 1960.
Her television debut came in 1961 in the TV series Roaring 20's. Her film debut came in an uncredited role as a girl at the police station in Palm Springs Weekend.

Ms. Wells starred as Mary Ann on the TV series Gilligan's Island from 1964 to 1967.
She also provided the voice for Mary Ann and Ginger Grant in the animated TV series Gilligan's Planet.
In addition to the Gilligan series on television, she also appeared in such programs as The Roaring 20's, maverick, Cheyenne, Wagon Train, 77 Sunset Strip, The Detectives, Everglades, Tales Of Wells Fargo, 87th Precinct, Lawman, Surfside 6, Hawaiaan Eye, It's A Man's World, Laramie, Ripcord, The Third Man, Channing, The Joey Bishop Show, Burke's Law, The Invaders, The Wild Wild West, Bonanza, The FBI, Vegas$, Hagen, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Matt Houston, ALF, Growing Pains, Colombo, Roseanne, Three Sisters, Pastor Greg and The Bold And The Beautiful among others.
After the end of the Gilligan's Island series Ms. Wells embarked on a career in the theater appearing in nearly 100 productions by 2009. She spent much of the 1970's and 1980's touring in musical theater productions.
She also had a one woman show at MGM Grand Hotel and casino in Las Vegas.
In 1993 she published a cookbook entitled Mary Ann's Gilligan Island Cookbook as well as another book What Would Mary Ann Do? A Guide To Life which she co wrote with Steve Stinson.
In 2005 Ms. Wells consigned for sale her original gingham blouse and shorts from her signature role. The Beverly Hills auction house Profiles In History sold them for $20,700.
In May of 2016 she was named as Marketing Ambassador to Me TV Network.
She runs a business in Idaho known as Wishing Wells Collections which makes clothes for people with limited mobility.
She also is the founder of the Idaho Film and Television Institute, a non profit educational organization who goal is education, technical training and economic development in Idaho.
Ms Wells is involved with the Denver Foundation ( a charity chaired by Deeana Denver, the widow of Bob Denver ) and it's Christmas Wish Auction in 2009 for the purpose raising funds for the disadvantaged in West Virginia.
Dawn Wells was married to Larry Rosen from 1962 to 1967 however the marriage ended in divorce.
This Dawn Wells is quite an active person.
I enjoyed her in Gilligan's Island as well as the TV movies dealing with the former series. I also enjoyed her in the films The Town That Dreaded Sundown, The New Interns, Silent But Deadly and Return To Boggy Creek.
