Men Of Character              Character Actors

Paul Harvey

Per Quinlan's Character Stars:

Everything about this gray haired, hearty American actor was large and expansive. He played solid citizens, blustering windbags, comforting fathers , district attorneys who let the hero do the legwork, dyspeptic executives and authority figures behind desks. After 23 years of of such roles, Harvey's long, heavy head, large ears and solid girth were seen in in perhaps their best remembered guise: The Rev. Mr. Galsworthy in Father Of The Bride and Father's Little Dividend.

He was born Roy Paul Harvey at Sandwich, IL in 1882.

I assume that Mr. Harvey was a law abiding citizen considering the number of roles he played as a district attorney or judge.

Mr. Harvey was active also on televisions appearing in such programs as The Bigelow Theater, The Amos N Andy Show, Our Miss Brooks, I Love Lucy, Mr & Mrs. North, The Ford Television, Theater, Your Favorite Story, The Revlon Mirror Theater, Your Jeweler's Showcase, The Loretta Young Show, December Bride, My Little Margie, Cavalcade Of America, The Whistler, Public Defender, Lux Video Theater, The George Burns And Gracie Allen Show, Screen Director's Playhouse, Jane Wyman Presents The Fireside Theater, Climax, Navy Log, Studio 57, It's A Great Life, Father Knows Best, Ethel Barrymore Theater, The Christophers and The Roy Rogers Show.

He was married twice. His first wife was Merle Stanton and his second wife was Ottye Henrietta Cramer who was an actress. The marriage lasted until Mr. Harvey's death.

Paul Harvey passed away in December, 1955 from a coronary thrombosis.

I enjoyed this actor very much especially in the films Father's Little Dividend, Father Of The Bride, Calamity Jane, Let's Go Navy, The Yellow Cab Man, You're In The Army Now and Algiers.
