Wavy haired British born Hollywood actor with hard, unsmiling face and rat trap mouth, a villain par excellent, who also project sympathy in off beat leading roles. He came to play Shakespeare on Broadway but was soon in film roles of jealous noblemen or humorless martinets.
Charles Henry Daniell was born at Barnes, Surrey, England in 1894.
He lived in Surrey where he was educated at St. Paul's School and then at Greasham's School at Holt, Norfolk.
Daniell made his first appearance on the stage in the provinces in the year 1913 after which he moved to London and performed at The Globe Theater.
He served in World War One in the 2nd Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment where the following year he was invalidated out due to have been severely wounded in combat.
After returning home Daniell appeared at the New Theater and the prestigious Theater Royal, Haymarket.
In 1921 he appeared at the Empire Theater in New York City as Prince Charles of Vaucluse in the play Claire de Lune after which he toured for the next three years reappearing at London's GarrickTheater.
In 1929 he went for six months to New York City appearing at the Moresco Theater as Lord Ivor Creame in Serena Blandish returning to London where he played the role of John Carlton in Secrets at the Comedy Theater.
Again he went back to America where he toured on the Pacific Coast at Los Angeles and then back to New York City again.. he continued to perform in London and New York and started his film career in England with the 1929 film The Awful Truth.
Daniel appeared on Broadway quite often appearing in such productions as The Woman On The Jury (1923), Heat Wave (1931) Hedda Gabler (1942) , The Winter's Tale (1946) and My Three Angels (1953-54) among others.
His Hollywood film debut came in the 1929 film Jealousy. He had few opportunities to play the good guy and one such role was that of Franz Liszt in the film Song of Love (1947)
Some of his best villains were Professor Moriarity (The Woman In Green), Baron Varville (Camille), Lord Wolfingham (The Sea Hawk), Cecil ( The Private Lives Of Elizabeth And Essex) and the cruel Mr. Brocklehurst (Jane Eyre).

He was married to Ann Knox. from 1932 until his death.
Henry Daniell passed away in 1963 a few hours before he was due to report to work on the film version of My Fair Lady.
Mr. Daniell always made a great villain.
