The Plot:
After having to kill his horse due to a broken leg, Wes Steele comes across a stagecoach that had been robbed. There were a number of dead passengers including a little girl.
The stagecoach was the doings of corrupt banker Stanley and his henchman Clanton. Stanley's partner in the doing was Luke Joiner who was upset about the killings and when leaving Clanton shoots him in the back.
When Steele , a stranger arrives in town, Stanley blames him for his partner's death.
Steele, knowing that he is being sought for the killing hides in the cellar of a house which turns out to be the house of Sheriff Corrigan who is laid up with the Yellow Fever and is being cared for by his daughter Nadine.
Meanwhile the town doctor quarantines their house.
Nadine passes out from fatigue caring for her father and Steele nurses the Sheriff back to health. He convinces Nadine that he did not have anything to do wiht the stagecoach holdup or the killing of Joiner.
Nadine tells Steele that her father worries about her but has left her well off for the future. Steele and Nadine then kiss one another.
Steele then ventures outside where he confronts Stanley. At that time a lynch mobs is forming but the Sheriff gives the wanted Steele a chance to escape.
Unfortunately the Sheriff has been on the take from Stanley, and now a noose is set up on a tree for him as well.
Steele returns to rescue the Sheriff and kills Clanton. The truth about Stanley is revealed and he is placed under arrest.
Steele is told he should leave town, but decides to stay and feels that now in may develop into a descent place to live.
The IMDB dates this one as 6.4 out of 10. I agree with this rating.
I enjoyed this western and thought that Ray Milland did a good job as both star and director.
. It's a good film and I believe that it can be gotten on DVD for a personal collections. It may very well be available on Netflix as well.
