William Caskey Swaim was an American actor best known for his role of Staff Sgt Harry Fitz in the TV series Project UFO.
Mr. Swaim was born at Lexington, NC in 1947.
The son of Carey and Anne Swaim, he was one of four children.
Swaim attended Grimes Elementary School , Lexington Junior and Senior High in Lexington, NC. He went on to attend Gardner-Webb University in Bolling Springs, NC for one and a half years as a liberal arts major. However his studies were cut short when he was drafted by the U. S. Army , serving 18 months as a medic in Okinawa, Japan.
He became interested in acting as a child when his sisters took him to see the film On The Waterfront. He was also influenced by Elvis Presley of which he did impersonations..
Swaim performed in two minor roles in plays at the Winston Salem Little Theater.
When he returned from the service he got a regular job and started saving his money.
After his marriage he moved with his wife (Kaye Smith) moved to North Hollywood California.
He worked at a night job at a convalescent hospital while pursuing an acting career. Finding out from an actor that the Film Actors Workshop was sponsored by his G I Bill, he joined and studied acting with actor and coach Charles Conrad.
His first acting break was a role as a ranch hand in a stage production at the Theater Craft Playhouse in Los Angeles Of Mice And Man. After this he pursued a career in television and films.
His film debut came in 1977 in the film Heroes.
His television debut was in the series Project UFO where he starred as Staff Sgt. Harry Fitz from 1978 through 1979.
The films roles of Caskey Swaim were:
Heroes (1977) as Frank
The Big Fix (1978) as The Cop
Night Warning (1982) as Phil Brody
Friday The 13th: A New beginning (1985) as Duke
War Party (1988) as Vigilante #1
In addition to Project UFO, Mr. Swaim also appeared on television in the following programs: Battle Of The Network Stars The Dukes Of Hazard, CHiPs, The A Team, Sledge Hammer and Matlock.
At present Mr. Swaim I assume is active in theater and other projects and there is no further activity for him after 1989 for films and television.
He is married to Kaye Smith.,
I really enjoyed Mr. Swaim in Project UFO. Too bad it didn't last longer and that he has not made any current appearances on TV and films.
