Per Quinlan's Film Stars:
Tall, dark, rugged American actor who quit school teaching for Hollywood in the late fifties and was soon seen in leading roles.
He was born Dayle Lymoine Robertson at Harrah, OK in 1923.
Robertson. was enrolled at Oklahoma Military Academy and fought as a professional boxer while enrolled there.
During this time he was offered the leading role in Golden Boy by Columbia Pictures but turned it down since he didn't want to leave the ponies that we was training at home.
Robertson served with a tank crew and with the combat engineers in North Africa and Europe during World War Two. He was wounded twice during this period.
He started his acting career while still on active duty with the U. S. Army. While stationed at San Luis Obispo, he decided to have a photograph made to send to his mother. He and several other soldiers went to Hollywood to find a photographer. A large copy of his photo was displayed in the photographer's window. Due to this he found himself getting letters from film agents who wanted to represent him.
Robertson could not continue his boxing career due to his wounds during the war so he stayed in Hollywood to continue his hand at acting.
He made his film debut in the film The Boy With The Green Hair in 1948 with an non credited role as a policeman.
For the most part of his career Robertson played in western roles in films and on television.
Robertson is probably best remember for his role as Jim Hardy in the television series Tales Of Wells Fargo which ran in prime time from 1957 to 1961.
