Men Of Character               Character Actors/Calypso Singer

Sir Lancelot

He was born Lancelot Victor  Edward Pinard  at Cumuto, Trinidad  British West Indies ( now Togago) in 1902 to Anglophile parents.

He went to school in New York City and it was there  that he discovered a love of calypso music.

Many artists in the calypso field took names like Lord or King, it was natural for him to add Sir to his original name of Lancelot.

Sir Lancelot wrote and performed calypso music for films, theater and radio beginning in the 1940's.

In addition to performing calypso music, he also did some acting on the side.

The film roles of Sir Lancelot were:

Happy Go Lucky (1943) as Calypso Singer

I Walked With A Zombie ( 1943) as Calypso Singer

The Ghost Ship (1943) as Billy Radd

The Curse Of The Cat People (1944) as Edward

To Have And Have Not (1944) as Horatio, a Crewman

Eve Knew Her Apples (1945) as Calypso Singer On Radio

Zombies On Broadway (1945) as Calypso Singer

Linda, Be Good (1947) as Calypso Singer

Brute Force (1947) as Calypso James

Romance On The High Seas (1948) as Specialty Singer

The Buccaneer (1958) as Scipio.

He also appeared on television in the series Lux Video Theater, Father Knows best and The Andy Griffith Show.

Sir Lancelot passed away in 2001 from natural causes.

I enjoyed him in  the films I Walked With A Zombie, Brute Force , Curse Of The Cat People, To Have And Have Not and Romance On The High Seas.

I always enjoyed him in performancse of calypso type music.
