Leading Ladies                   Beth Brickell


Beth Brickell was an American actress whose careen was mainly on television and stage.

She was best known for her role as Ellen Wedloe on the Gentle Ben television series.

Ms. Brickell was born at Camden, AR in 1941.

She began studying acting with Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg. and was accepted into the legendary Actors Studio.

 Ms. Brickell appeared  in leading roles in over 25 stage productions both within and outside of New York. Some of the productions included Thurber Carnival with Jean Stapleton, Room Service with Bill Macy and Take Her, She's Mine with Walter Pidgeon.

Moving to Hollywood she starred in two seasons of the popular TV series Gentle Ben with Dennis Weaver.

She guest starred on television in over 100 TV  shows and movies and was considered for Emmy nominations for episodes on Bonanza(1959) and Hawaii Five O (1968).

The Only Way Home (1972) as Marcia

Brock's Last Case (1973-TV) as Ellen Ashley

Posse (1975) as Carla Ross

Death Game (1977) as Karen Manning

Ms. Brickell starred as Ellen Wedloe in Gentle from 1967 - 1969.

Other TV series that she appeared in were The Girl From U N C L E, The Hero, The Green Hornet, The Man From U N C L E, Captain Nice, The Donald O'Connor Show, San Francisco International Airport, Marcus Welby MD, The Virginian, Dan August, Bonanza, Alias Smith And Jones, Hawaii Five - O, Gunsmoke, Love American Style, Chase, Emergency, The magician, Nakia, Kodiak, Adam,-12, Ironside, Matt Helm, The Oregon Trail, Fantasy Island and Stone.

While teaching acting for three years in the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York and Los Angeles, she developed an interest in acting. She accepted a Director Fellowship at the American film Institute  in Los Angeles and she graduated with an MFA in directing and screen writing.

Ms. Brickell has directed episodes of Knots Landing and two dramas, Little Boy Blue (1975) and To Tell The Truth (1987).

She has also developed the story for a CBS movie A Family Affair as well as a miniseries for PBS entitled Susan B which is about Susan B. Anthony and the women's suffrage movement.

In addition to the above she also wrote, directed and produced the film  Mr. Christmas (2005) which was awarded Best Family Film at the Hollywood Moondance International Film Festival as well as winning the Award Of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board of Los Angeles.

In 1992 Ms Brickell graduated from the University Of Arkansas with a BA in political science and has been active in state and national politics. She worked on a project that raised $250,000 for Bill Clinton's presidential campaign and she managed the campaign for Blanche Lincoln who was running against as 26 year incumbent. Her help ended up with Lincoln winning the primary as well as being elected as a U S Senator from Arkansas.

Beth Brickell was married to James V. Spencer III however the marriage ended in divorce.

I enjoyed Ms. Brickell in the Gentle Ben TV series as well as the films Posse and The Only Way Home.
