Fred Sadoff

Fred Sadoff was an American character actor of television, films and stage.

His career in films and television lasted from 1949 until 1990 garnering 82 credits in these two fields.

Mr. Sadoff was born at Brooklyn, NY in 1926.

His start as an actor came on Broadway where he made his debut in South Pacific in the late 1940's in the role of "Professor".

A lifetime member of The Actors Studio he appeared with this group in Camino Real and Wish You Were Here.

In 1956 he became a personal assistant to Michael Redgrave who starred in and directed the production of The Sleeping Prince.

Sadoff moved to London to form a production company with Redgrave known as F.E.S. Plays, Ltd. This company presented works like The Importance Of Being Oscar which had a short run on Broadway in 1961. Sadoff also was a director for the BBC and Rediffusion while he was still in England.

His film debut came in 1952 in Viva Zapata! in an uncredited role. His television debut came in 1949 in the TV series The Clock.

Mr. Sadoff was very active on television appearing in such programs as Danger, The Big Story, Decoy, Suspense, The Saint, Court Martial, Judd For The Defense, Marcus Welby M D, The FBI, The Flying Nun, Medical Center, Bracken's World, Mayberry RFD, The Young Lawyers, The Man And The City, Cade's County, Cannon, Banyon, Mannix, Kung Fu, Kojak, The Manhunter, The Rockford Files, Baretta, Harry O, Quincy M E, Black Sheep Squadron, Lou Grant, Barnaby Jones, Meeting Of Minds, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, Nero Wolfe, Barney Miller, Amand'a's, Ryan's Four, Manimal, Partners In Crime, Mr. Belvedere, Magnum P I and Empty Nest among others.

He also had the recurring part of Dr. Lenny Murchison, the psychiatrist who helped the SFPD in The Streets Of San Francisco. which ran from 1972 to 1977.

I enjoyed Mr. Sadoff in the Streets Of San Francisco TV series as well as in the films Papillion, The Execution Of Private Slovik, The Poseiden Adventure, Washington Behind Closed Doors and The Quiet American.

Fred Sadoff passed away in 1994 at age 67 from AIDS.
